Krell and Kemmler. And a Necromancer...

And that's a wrap on my 1000 pts of undead for Age of Sigmar... (just kidding, I'm already assembling more of these dead dudes...) But before that, let's look at these lovely chunks of metal. First up, this sweet Necromancer, who I'm showing a lot of because I'm real happy with his purple robe. And these 2, who you saw in the battle report. We have the heavy-hitter Krell, himself. And what's Krell without his buddy Mr. Kemmler? Til next time, friends!

Artifacts of Power - Battle Report

The Lichemaster has uncovered an ancient and promising site, hidden deep within the Forest of Woe. As Morrslieb rises high in the heavens, faint lines of energy from the geomantic web have surged to life, revealing three artifacts of power. Time is of the essence. Kemmler must assemble a hasty force from the local settlements cemetery. A horde of zombies, freshly dead from plague, the spirits of ancient dead that haunt the cursed burial grounds, and a tomb of skeletons to protect him as he unlocks the regions power. But the prying eyes of Clan Eshin are wise to his plans. For a reasonable sum of warpstone, they reveal the location of the site of power to Arch-Warlock Shock Fur, who assembles his claw guard of Stormvermin and Clanrats. He hires Pack Master Skweel Gnawtooth to bring some enhanced Rat Ogres to ensures his triumph in securing the artifacts, before the Lichemaster.

Zombies and Wraiths

And here we have a brick of 30 Zombies. I'd never had the chance to assemble any of these guys even though I've been seeing them since their release way back in 1999, so I had a blast putting them together and adding some Empire bits to create some variety. Tucked in are 2 wraiths, one from way back in dark ages of WFB and one a recent release. The old metals are a ton of fun to paint.

Undead Spirit Hosts

These were fun and quick to paint up. It's a mix of very old ghosts, some old empire spearmen around the headless dead and some later WFB ghosts. Nihilaxh Oxide over white was the order of the day with a tinted white drybrush to finish them.

Age of Sigmar

My gaming mojo was reinvigorated in 2016 with Age of Sigmar. The advent of points values and the establishment of my gaming space, along with a load of painted terrain, has seen me playing more gaming than I have since high school. I'm in love with the streamlined ruleset, the sense that the entire game was designed around the principle of "does it make sense?" and the fact that the games are very tactical and the units feel like they should. I've been playing dwarfs and warriors feel stout, slayers feel like the berserkers they are (deathblow!) and cannons are terrifying. the flame cannon is nearly broken, but when it's on the table it becomes a prime target, so it's damage output tends to get limited as it's destroyed early in the game. Or it doesn't do much damage... Needless to say, I'm hopeful that 40K will undergo a similar treatment as WFB did, not blowing up the entire world. but a streamlining to make playing the game more fun.

Warriors of Chaos

Painted these lads up in the fall of 2016, just getting to post them now. They're the start of a chaos army, painted up as a tribute to the era when these came out.

Not dead yet.

It's but a wild, rough, fun year. Moved house last October and didn't have a hobby space operational until May or so. Been working on that since and getting my hobby mojo back. Age of Sigmar has been a breath of fresh air and inspired me to get moving on some fantasy projects.

Terrain from GW, 6 forests, some walls and a tower, and Tabletop World, windmill, house, and well. And a big block of Skeletons finished in just 2 days.

And playing a bunch of games, more than I have in years.

Secret Weapon Tablescapes

I backed the kickstarter way-back-when and receive 3 themes for a total of two 4x6 foot tables. The tiles themselves are great, the clip together really nicely and are a joy to paint. And dice don't even bounce all over the place on them... I pulled some from each and got to work painting them up. I based them with a flat dark brown spray, then drybrushed them with Calthan brown (custom mixed gallon), a medium brown and lighter brown and then an ivory (hooray craft paint). I painted all the details and got the scrap piles nice and rusty, before everything got a nice ivory drybrush to make it look all dusty to blend it into the terrain. before flock, I painted on a solid coat of an acrylic varnish followed by Army Painter matte sealer. Indestructible. I had a tile fall on other tiles from 3 feet up and there wasn't even a hint of damage. So these should withstand years of gaming without need for touchups. After that, I added 5 layer of fine turf flock and 2 more on top of that of a coarser flock. PICTURES!

Chainsaw Warriors // Dwarf Sneak Peek

Painted up my Chainsaw Warriors this week.

And a sneak peek at this weekends project.
